IMPORTANT: I, take no responsibility of ruining your card while flashing, which is very unlikely in DOS but is possible. I only wrote this tutorial for learning purposes and you're taking your own chance with your card(s). The following worked for me and my setup! The flashing and config was done medio april 2010.

My setup:

Mac Pro 2.66 Quad Core (Early 2009), 20” Apple Cinema Display, 24" Apple Cinema Display, OS X 10.6.3
Sapphire ATI Radeon 4890 HD 1GB Vapor X display port/dvi/hdmi/vga
Mini Displayport (24" Apple Cinema Display) to Displayport (Sapphire 4890) Adapter Cable from Circuit Assembly
2 x powercables for the 4890 "G5 Graphic Power Cable" and can be found on Ebay or ATI.COM store.

(PLEASE NOTE: Mac Pro motherboard has two connectors for powering graphic cards. These connectors are special and you will not find the right cable in a PC store. You cannot use the ones supplied with the ATI card, they only work for in a PC)

Here is what I did (all the files I used are in this zip file - approx. 3.5 mb):

0. Flashed my card in a PC with the help of this guide (you need a real PC and a USB key): unofficial-how-flash-ati-cards (all the files needed for this are In this zip file - approx. 3.5 mb) You can also read everything in this pdf file.

1. Ran Apple OS X 10.6.3 combo update again
2. Left combo update open, did not immediately restart.
3. Ran Zeus Flashing Tool (get it here)10.6.3 qu_ci patcher ( > Select card... ATI 4000 series > Select OS... 10.6.3 > Downloads driver > Installed it
4. Restarted mac pro.

5. Downloaded http://groths.org/dualdvi.zip
6. Installed the included 3 kext; ATI4800Controller.kext, ATIFramebuffer.kext and ATISupport.kext like this:
7. Open "Kext Helper b7" and drop the 3 kext files into the window, enter your admin password and click EASY INSTALL
8. Restarted mac pro.

And BADABIIIING, my 24" ACD gave me something to look at as well

The only thing which is presently NOT working is sleep. My screen goes bananas after sleep, but I’m working on that.
The error message after boot regarding power to your videocard is “normal” and you should’nt worry. Just click it away.

It's been obvious from day one that it was possible, but after a couple of years of oh-so-painful 30 FPS recording on the EOS 5D Mark II, Canon is finally coming through with its long-promised 2.0.3 update that brings 29.97 FPS and 24 FPS (23.976, to be precise) 1080p recording at last. Even the VGA mode has been swapped to a 29.97 actual rate, and PAL mode has a flat 25 FPS and 23.976 FPS as well. Additional tweaks include a manual volume adjustment (as opposed to the automatic gain the cameras usually employ), a brightness or RGB histogram display (this function, like some of these other features, has been available for a while as a hack), shutter and aperture priority modes have been added for movie shooting, and the audio sampling ramp has been bumped from 44.1KHz to 44KHz.

I was looking for a good DLNA UPnP server for my new Samsung UE46B7050 LED TV, and searched the internet for the different options. I tried several, but the choice fell on these two which vere very simple to configure.

Elgato Eyeconnect

Super fine product, almost no setup, just a preference pane with two tabs that you see below. That controls it all, and DLNA server, the Mac it runs on, it pops up very fast on either TV or Playstation 3 (which I use to DNLA as it runs better / faster and it transmits sound to the my av-receiver)

Have also tried TwonkyMedia (commenly used on NAS like QNAP and Synology, also is in my NAS; a QNAP TS-239 Pro) but I could not get to work, it is something with config via http and some ports, and GUI interface ... it is to damn difficult for me.

I think i’ll grab MediaLink for 20 dollars, just to have the ability to play directly from your Mac. Do not actually need my Mac Mini any more ... :(

The TomTom solution combines two new TomTom products to provide users with state of the art in-car navigation on their iPhone 3G:

The TomTom navigation application for iPhone; an Apple version of TomTom’s award-winning turn-by-turn navigation software, including IQ Routes and latest maps from Tele Atlas; The TomTom car kit for iPhone; a specially developed car kit for secure docking, enhanced GPS performance, clear voice instructions, hands-free calling and in-car charging.

The TomTom navigation application for iPhone will be available via the Apple iTunes App Store, following the release of Apple’s OS 3.0 operating system. Avaiable for the iPhone and iPod touch only: Normally you would have to spend 103$/year to read WSJ in a stadard browser. On the iPhone/iPod touch it is totally free!

Just like the BlackBerry app released last year, the WSJ iPhone app's home screen provides scrolling headlines and thumbnail images of that day's Journal content in a few different categories—"What's News," "Markets," and "Editors' Picks." Hit "More," however, and you get pretty much every category covered in the dead tree version.

The WSJ videos and streaming radio content is also available from the app, and at the bottom you will see an add, currently from Oracle, and hopwfully it will stay this way and continue to be a free and wonderfull app for the iPhone.

The WSJ app is a free download, requires an iPhone or iPod touch running at least the 2.2 firmware. We can confirm that it runs on 3.0 beta 3 firmware as well.

To get MMS an tethering to work on your iPhone with the iPhone OS 3.0 software beta, you need to update your carrier file (.ipcc). There a lot of carrier files floating around on the web, and I have tried to collect a few pointers.

How to update the carrier file on your iPhone with iPhone OS 3.0 software

• First of all: Your phone doesn’t need to be jailbroken!
• Next open iTunes with your iPhone 3G connected via USB.
• Sync you iPhone
• Click the Check for Update button while pressing the Option key.
• Navigate to the downloaded carrier bundle and select it
• After a few seconds your carrier settings have been updated.
• Restart your iPhone 3G

• Try out Tethering by going to Settings > General > Network > Internet Tethering

After joining the iPhone Developer program connect the iPhone to iTunes and do the following:

• MAC: Hold Option Key and hit Upgrade button with mouse click
• Windows:Hold Shift or Ctrl Key and hit Upgrade button with mouse click
• Should open browse window on mac or windows, navigate to the file you downloaded and double click it.
• After that just let it run and home everything works fine.

The long awaited new features in iPhone OS 3.0 have been sneak previewed to a iPhone users and app developers today. And there are MANY new features...

For iPhone users, that number is more than 100—the amount of new features Apple promises in iPhone 3.0. Topping the list is the ability for users to copy and paste information—including text, blocks of HTML, and photos—in the iPhone’s built-in apps. Users will also be able to copy and paste between applications. Third-party developers will have the ability to add copy-and-paste functionality to their apps as well.

Monday the 2nd I ordered my new Oakley Radar through Steptoes in the UK. I ordered the custom Oakley sunglasses, polished aluminium frame color, G20 Black Iridium lens, brown nose piece and ear socks and an additional clear lens (for riding in at night). The lense looks more black than the picture below. But I definately get the pinkish look looking through the lenses, and a great contrast to. It seems like they are not quite cut out for really bright light, so I might look into getting the Ice Iridium lens for it.

The G20 Black Iridium only lets approx. 15% light through, but the Ice Iridium only lets 10% through.

But the Radar looks awsome and fits snug like my to other Oakleys sunglasses. Am taking them on a 3-4 hour ride tommorow, and will let you know how I feel about them.

After ride update: The sunglasses are great, under my Giro E2 helmet (with shade) they fit so nice, its like Im not wearing them at all. Was a bit afraid that they would’nt block enough sun, but my worries turned out to be be unnecessary. I am wearing the helmet with shade and I think that this combo is perfect. The will not handle really bright sunlight by themselves, but with the helmet its entirely different. These glases fit so snug and feel so good. Perfect for mountainbiking.

I bought the Camelbak Mayhem 3 Litre (hydration pack) from wiggle.co.uk before our trip to Harz, Germany. We hoped for good weather down there and I had researched a lot about drinking from a bottle or from a hydration pack. My Grand Canyon 8.0 is equipped with a bottle in a bottle holder, but it is only 0.75L and we vere thinking of riding the whole day.

My experiences with the Camelbak Mayhem 3 Litre are very good. I love having the water accesible all the time. 3 liters are plenty for 1 person for a day. We had about 25 degrees C and I did not run out of water. But do get the ”Thermal Control Kit”, which converts any Camelback hydration system for extreme winter and summer conditions. Kit includes insulated tube cover, foam Bite Valve(TM) cover, Bite Valve(TM) mouthpiece, and 46 inch delivery tube. If you dont, the first 1-2 mouthfulls of water will be warm, and believe me you do not want that when riding around in the summer sun. You will want the cold water from the bladder. UPDATE: A little tip from Camelbak to avoid this: when you are finished drinking, blow the remaining water in the tube back in the bladder, then you dont have a problem with warm wter :O)
